Stepaside Film Club

Its A Wonderful LifeWe are a recently formed Community film club who screen classic general interest films on a regular basis in Belarmine Community centre. The plan is to attract more members and grow an interest group in the surrounding community. We also screen special interest and children’s movies. We set up in July 2012 and launched with a children’s screening in Belarmine Community Centre. The film was selected by a mother and toddlers group and was a great success. Much positive feedback was received. Since then we have held a very successful screening in the Cinemobile in Stepaside village in collaboration with Dun Laoghaire- Rathdown Arts Department.

The StingWe had over 60 people attend our screening and many people expressed interest in joining our club at the screening. We also have been working with Anne Legarreta a Film Facilitator and expert in this field who has given invaluable advice and guidance in how to start a non-profit community film club. We wish this collaboration to continue into the future,as her knowledge in this area is invaluable. The plan is to expand the film club and create associations with other community groups in the area.

The GooniesAs above we are a non-profit community film club who screen general interest films. We will be actively involved in the community and hope to form strong links with other clubs in the area and eventually to provide a springboard for other Arts projects in the greater community. A link with young filmmakers and people interested in the broader audio / visual arena. Eventually we can envisage holding regular arts festivals that can engage with the wider community.

Aims And Objectives of Project: To promote the Art of Film in the wider community. To engage with the large foreign national community in the area i.e. we plan to screen foreign language films. To establish strong cross interest links with other community groups to help each other. To eventually have a general Arts festival in the community and have the film club as the facilitator of this

Target Group: All residents in the Stepaside area and other community groups (to form associations and partnerships).

The Film club has a social aspect,an educational aspect, and an entertainment aspect. A Film club is a great way to bring art into peoples lives, meet interesting people, have intellectual stimulation, and learn about other experiences and cultures. Attending a good film club will enrich people’s lives.

We are looking for Film buffs to help us with the Film Club. If you have any ideas / suggestions and or just wish to come along contact us.
